Insightful.  This comes direct from pioneer-interpreters in DR, dated January 28:

“Since we now have badges that read “Humanitarian Aid, Interpreter”, the entire hospital staff has been calling upon us to help with all Haitians in the hospital from the earthquake.  So much for the Red Cross and the Haitian Embassy taking care of this!  These poor people have no money, no clothes to wear, no family.  Some were brought in by copter, completely naked.  Their so called churches set up these hospitals with as they say “blan yo” and find a way to get them here.  Unlike us, these injured have no advocates and are at the mercy of an overworked and careless medical staff.  The first thing they do is get blood to administer to them, no blood test is ever done to check for compatibility.  Nor is the blood stored properly!  I pray that the last two we saw before leaving make it through the night.  So we do our best to help them.  However, so th…
